Troubleshooting

Common issues and their solutions

Mountio doesn't appear in the menu bar after launching

Check System Settings > Privacy & Security to ensure the app is allowed to run. The first time you launch Mountio, macOS may show a security warning. Go to System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS), navigate to Privacy & Security, find the message about Mountio being blocked, and click "Open Anyway" to allow the app to run.

Can't mount or detach a USB stick

  • Make sure no applications are currently using files on the USB stick
  • Try closing any Finder windows that have the USB stick open
  • Administrator privileges may be required for mount/detach operations
  • Check that the USB device is properly connected and recognized by your Mac

The menu doesn't update automatically

The menu automatically refreshes every 2 seconds to show current device status. If you notice delays, try:

  • Waiting a few seconds for the auto-refresh
  • Clicking away from the menu and clicking back to force a refresh
  • Restarting the Mountio application

Mountio requires administrator privileges

Mountio may prompt for administrator password when performing mount/detach operations. This is normal macOS behavior for system-level disk operations. The app uses standard macOS disk management commands that require elevated privileges.

USB device not showing in the menu

If a USB stick doesn't appear in Mountio's menu:

  • Ensure the device is properly connected to your Mac
  • Try unplugging and reinserting the USB device
  • Check if the device appears in Disk Utility or Finder
  • Some USB devices may require additional drivers or may not be compatible

Auto-mount settings not working

Auto-mount settings affect future mount operations but don't change the current mount state. To disable auto-mounting for a specific device:

  • Right-click the device in Mountio's menu
  • Select "Auto-Mount" > "Disabled"
  • This setting is saved and will apply to future connections of that device
